Sawyer Brown and the Future of Concerts in Apopka
In the ongoing discussions regarding the fiscal year 2026 budget, two city commissioners are advocating for the preservation of local concerts, particularly the Spring Orchestra Concert, while the Apopka Proud Concert faces potential removal. The proposed budget cuts aim to save $30,000 from the Spring Orchestra Concert and $200,000 from the Apopka Proud Concert, as highlighted in a recent parks and recreation budget presentation. Despite lower attendance figures for the Spring Concert, which has seen fewer than 500 attendees in past years, officials believe it still holds value for the community. The Apopka Proud Concert has featured notable acts like Sawyer Brown since its inception in 2019. The city plans to reallocate some of the savings from these events to enhance the Saturday Sounds Concert series, aiming to attract more diverse musical acts. Overall, the proposed parks and recreation budget for FY26 totals $14,272,278, with reductions across various divisions to streamline expenses.
Sawyer Brown Orlando Concert reviews
Good Music, Poor Presentation
I have attended many concerts at Sandstone (which it will always be to me). And they were always fun evenings and good sounds.
I was very disappointed with this concert because;
1 - Had bad lighting – you couldn’t even see the stage and the singers were virtually in the dark unless you looked only at the big screens
2 – also there were no onstage cameras so you couldn’t even see the headliners most of the time even on the big screen. I understand that Mark and Neal McCoy wanted to interact with the people by standing front center stage. Why were there no cameras to follow them when they wandered? Most of the night all the screens showed were the bands which is ok but they weren’t who I came to see.
3 – the concessions were really disappointing also, there just weren’t wasn’t much there.
4 - my biggest thing was all of the smoking going on. There have always been joints passed around, but people were just smoking cigarettes in their seats! I have COPD and can’t take the smoke, so we had to move twice to get away from the smoke.
5 – I went to the entrance to our seats and there was a security person standing there talking on the phone and motioned that I wanted to talk when she finished and she just turned away. So I spoke to the guy guarding the gate and asked why nothing is done about the smoking. He gestured to the security person and said it’s all them and they do very little to enforce a smoking ban or anything.
In conclusion it was not an enjoyable evening.
